NMCG is joining the Mouse Hole Cheese Shop and La Finca Bowls for "Dairy With Dignity," a fundraiser dedicated to empowering immigrant dairy workers in New Mexico. About 90% of all dairy workers are undocumented, according to John Rosa (5th generation Dairy Farmer), and most are working in vulnerable conditions. This includes highly publicized incidents, such as the raid in Lovington earlier this summer where dairy owners claimed they were unaware of their employees' documentation status.
The New Mexico Cheese Guild is committed to educating cheese consumers about the food systems that produce the cheeses they eat and enjoy. This fundraiser is part of that mission, with proceeds benefiting the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center and the New Mexico Center for Law and Poverty.
